Interstate Moving Estimate Calculator

An interstate quote is not one number. It is a linehaul charge based on weight and distance, plus a list of accessorial charges for the things that make your particular move harder: stairs, a long carry from truck to door, a shuttle when the tractor-trailer cannot reach your street, and packing materials.

Movers are not hiding these. They are on the estimate, in small type, priced per unit. What surprises people is how much they add — the extras routinely run a quarter of the total.

Rebuild your quote below and compare it against the paper you were handed.

The line that catches people

Released value protection is free and nearly worthless. At 60 cents per pound per article, a 40-pound television that cost $1,200 is settled at $24. Full-value protection costs real money but is the only coverage that replaces things.

Before you sign

  • Ask which charges are guaranteed and which are estimates.
  • Ask what triggers a shuttle. If your destination street is narrow, get the shuttle priced in advance rather than discovering it on delivery day.
  • Get the flight count for stairs written down. Counting basements and stoops differently is a common source of dispute.
